Alice Norris Obituary
Alice May Norris (nee: Joviak), 97, of Elyria, died July 6, 2017 at The Abbewood Senior Living Community where she has been a resident for the past six years. Alice was born March 7, 1920, in Elyria, the second of four children to the late Stanley John and Caroline Christine (nee: Werner) Joviak. On May 15, 1949 she married Roy A. Norris, who preceded her in death in 2008, as did her two brothers, Earl and Wayne Joviak. She is survived by her sister, Audrey Joviak of Sheffield Village and close family friend, Felicia Manubay. Also surviving are her children, Neal (Diane) Norris of Vermilion and Anne Norris of Elyria and her granddaughter, Kerri Norris of Alexandria, Virginia.Alice graduated from Elyria High School in 1937 and from Oberlin School of Commerce in 1939. She worked as an assistant at The Land Title Company of Elyria for ten years and as a bookkeeper at Riverview Mobile Home Park. She was a long-time member of Grace Lutheran Church in Elyria where she was a member of the Ladies Aid Society and Guild of the church and taught Sunday School for seventeen years. While a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Grafton she was a member the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. She had also been active in the P.T.A. at East Carlisle Elementary School. Alice was a devoted wife and mother and enjoyed cooking, baking, cake decorating, sewing and reading.Friends will be received Friday July 7, 2017 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Dicken Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 323 Middle Avenue, Elyria. A service of celebration will be Saturday July 8, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Grace Lutheran Church, 9685 East River Road, Elyria. Reverend Robert F. Weldon, Sr. will officiate. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township. Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Lutheran Church or a charity of choice.
