Andrew P. Andy Milchen, 97, of Elyria, died Friday, September 16, 2011 at Life Care Center of Westlake. He was born September 1, 1914 in East Syracuse, New York and has been a resident of Elyria since 1947. He was employed for forty years at General Motors, retiring in 1977 as quality control manager at General Motors Fisher Guide in Elyria. He had also worked for the New York Central Railroad Messenger in East Syracuse from 1929 to 1933 and with the Civilian Conservation Corps in Fairhaven, NY from 1933 to 1937.He was a member of St. Mary Church, Elyria. He loved golf, was a member of Oberlin Golf Club and enjoyed yard work and maintaining his garden. Andy is survived by sons Andrew, Jr. (Nancy) of Elyria, William (Linda) of Lorain, James of Georgetown, TX and Michael (Margaret) of Elyria; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Sophie M. in 1993, parents Nicholas and Mary (nee Fedora) Milchen; brothers Frank and Michael Milchen; sisters Ann Kenyon and Mary Milchen and grandchildren Nathan and Nicole Milchen. Friends will be received Tuesday, September 20, 2011 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Dicken Funeral Home 323 Middle Ave. Elyria, followed by an 11:00 a.m. funeral mass at St. Mary Church, 320 Middle Ave., Elyria. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Elyria. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary Church or American Heart Association, 1689 E. 115th Street, Cleveland, OH 44106.
