Ann Frederick PondAnn Frederick Pond died December 15, 2018 at the age of 90 in Columbus, Ohio. Born in Youngstown, Ohio she was the daughter of Laston Forest and Harriet Barnes Frederick, and cherished sister of brothers Laston F., George, and Harry D. Frederick, who all predeceased her.A graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School in Youngstown at age 16, Ann was swept off her feet by a World War II Fighter Pilot while they were students at Ohio Northern University. She married Donald Dempsey Pond in 1947 and devoted herself to him and to raising their large family in Elyria, Ohio. Together they had seven children, one of whom was stillborn, and six who survive and adored her: Donald D. Pond, Jr. (Louise); Susan A. Pond; Frederick D. Pond (Georgia); Robin P. Schorr (Robert); Laurel P. Sawhill; and Rebecca P. West (Bradley). Her beloved husband died in 2009 after 62 years of marriage.Ann delighted in her 10 grandchildren: Emily P. Kenefick, Daniel D. Pond; Robert E. Schorr, William P. Schorr; Erin E. Pond; John C. Sawhill; W. Hunter West, Ann P. West, Wyatt D. West, and Samuel F. West; and five great-grandchildren: Lola and Wynn Kenefick; and Robert, Marilyn and Buckingham Schorr.Ann’s wonderful sense of humor, capacity for fun, and terrific spirit gained her friends and admirers throughout her long life. She loved to read, travel, and play bridge. She worked in Elyria Public School libraries, and was a devoted member of First Congregational United Church of Christ, and dedicated volunteer for the Elyria Public Library.Ann was sharp and engaging until dementia took its hold in recent years. She received loving care at First Community Village in Upper Arlington, Ohio, and from her daughter, Susan. A private burial will be held at Brookdale Cemetery in Elyria. Memorial donations may be made to First Congregational United Church of Christ, 330 Second Street, Elyria, Ohio 44035 or to the Employee Fund at First Community Village, 1800 Riverside Drive, Upper Arlington, Ohio 43212. The family requests no flowers please. Arrangements are in the care of Dicken Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Elyria, Ohio.
