Ann Criss Obituary
Ann W. Criss (nee Wright), 83, of Elyria, died August 20, 2022. She was born March 22, 1939 in Hackensack, NJ, moving to Cleveland in 1953. She was a 1957 graduate of John Marshall High School. Ann received a Bachelors Degree in Speech and Hearing Therapy from Miami University in 1961 and a Masters Degree in Education from the University of Mount St. Joseph, Cincinnati in 1985. Ann worked in the Cleveland City Schools and then for over thirty years as a Speech and Language Pathologist for the Elyria City Schools and for eleven years at Elyria Catholic High School. She was a member of St. Jude Church, Elyria and a member of Ohio School Speech Pathology Educational Auditory Coalition. She had a long standing membership in the American Association of University Women and a former chairman and newsletter editor. She had been active with the Windsor School PTA and the Cub Scouts. And for twenty years was a volunteer for Lorain County Special Olympics. Other interests included hiking with her children, playing bridge, gardening, reading historical novels, water color painting and crafting. She and husband John traveled extensively throughout the United States, Europe, Caribbean, South America, Hawaii and Alaska. She was beloved for her kindness, and respected for her frank honesty. Ann is survived by sons, Michael W. (Vonna) Criss of Elyria, John W. (April) Criss, Jr. of North Canton and David S. (Rebecca) Criss of Toledo; ten grandchildren; ten great grandchildren and a brother, David S. (Linda) Wright of Dayton. She was preceded in death by her parents, Stanley and Sally Wright and a sister, Catherine Searle. Friends will be received Saturday September 3, 2022 from 10:30 AM until the time of a 12:00 noon memorial service at Dicken Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 323 Middle Avenue, Elyria. Reverend Father Frank P. Kosem will officiate.
