Arlie SpragueArlie Sprague (nee Eubanks), 96, of Elyria, died February 15, 2019 at The Abbewood in Elyria. She was born November 20, 1922 at home with a midwife in Greensboro, Gadsden County, Florida to Flavie and Neadham Eubanks. Arlie was raised on the family farm in the Florida Panhandle. It was a hard life working the farm to produce food for the table and the farm’s cash crop, shade tobacco for cigar wrappers. She was a 1941 graduate of Greensboro High School and in 1943 enlisted in the US Navy Waves; stationed at the Pensacola Naval Air Station as a lab technician. She was discharged as a Seaman First Class in 1945. She met and married Elyrian Don Sprague while both were in the Navy and moved with him to Elyria in 1951. She was well known for her down-home southern cooking and enjoyed time with family and playing cards. Arlie was a member of Community of Faith United Church of Christ, Elyria and active with The Jolly 60’s, Elyria Parks and Rec’s Active People and St. John Lutheran seniors group.Arlie is survived by her daughter, Sheryle (James) Smith; grandsons, Glen (Ali) Smith and Greg (Susan) Smith; great grandchildren, Emily, Jackson and Joe; brother, Mack (Sandie) Eubanks of Greensboro, Florida; sisters, Bernell Smith of Crawfordville, Florida and Dole Richards of Elyria and many nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her husband of forty seven years, Donald G. in 1992; brothers, Floyd, Hugh and John Eubanks and a sister, Vernice Eubanks.Friends will be received Tuesday February 19, 2019 from 11:00 AM until the time of a 1:00 PM service at Community of Faith United Church of Christ, 9715 East River Road Elyria. Reverend Kathryn Ketchum will officiate. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice. Arrangements are in the care of Dicken Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Elyria.
