Arthur F. Swart, 76, of Elyria Township, died November 14, 2015.He was born February 5, 1939 in Barberton, OH. Art was a 1957 graduate of Elyria High School and then served in the U.S. Army and Army Reserve. For 17 years, he was a firefighter for the Elyria Fire Department; retiring in 1985. He had also worked with his father at the family business Swart Sign Company. Art was an award winning watercolor artist, a lover of animals and enjoyed cooking and trips to Las Vegas. He was a member of Elyria V.F.W. #1079, Elyria American Legion Post 12, Elyria Elks Lodge #465 and Elyria Eagles.Art is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sandy; sons Michael Swart and Kevin (Lisa) Swart and grandchildren Alex and Kyle Swart, all of Elyria; sister Ethel (Lawrence) Standen of Elyria and Jeanne Foor of Phoenix, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents Forrest and Eleanor Swart and a brother George Swart.Friends will be received Wednesday, November 18, 2015 from 5 p.m. until the time of a 7:00 p.m. service at Dicken Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 323 Middle Ave., Elyria. Chuck Boals, chaplain of Elyria Fire Department will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Friendship Animal Protective League, 8303 Murray Ridge Rd., Elyria, OH 44035 or a charity of choice.
