March 14, 1945, an angel was born.in Elyria. April 24, 2012, that angel, Audrey Williams-Porter, was called home. Audrey was educated in the Elyria City Schools and was a 1963 graduate of Elyria High School. She was formerly employed at General Motors in Elyria, where she served as secretary for U.A.W. and upon leaving General Motors, she followed in the footsteps of her late father, Henry Williams, and became a bail bonds person for several years.She later worked as general manager at Best Western in Elyria for over 13 years and enjoyed the long lasting friendships she forged that continued beyond her retirement. Audrey was a member of Good Shepherd Baptist Church in Elyria and Sidonia Chapter #69 Order of Eastern Star. As family caregiver, Audrey was diligent in putting family first and truly believed it takes a village to raise a child.Audrey is survived by godchildren Ryan Malone of Parma, Elles Daniels of Cleveland and Suzanne Rector of Elyria; lifelong friend Ruth Huff-Hamilton of Lorain; brothers Craig (Denise) Williams of Xenia, Ohio, LeRoy (Rosie) Williams and Larry (Regina) Balls, both of Elyria and Henry Williams, Jr. of Springfield, Ohio; sisters Florida Dickerson and Yvonne (Joe Lynch) Williams, both of Elyria and grandmother, Gladys Gardley of Springfield, Massachusetts.She was preceded in death by her husband Willie James Porter on 2007; sisters Charlene Curry in 2001 and Patricia Patty Ann Stiles in 2009; brother John Ellwood Williams in 2010 and parents Henry and Ruby Williams.Family will receive friends Sunday, April 29, 2012 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Dicken Funeral Home, 323 Middle Ave. Elyria where Sidonia Chapter #69 Order of Eastern Star will conduct a service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will also be Monday, April 30, 2012 from 10 a.m. until the time of an 11:00 a.m. funeral service at Second Baptist Church, 427 16th Street, Elyria, OH 44035. Reverend Larry D. Harville, pastor of Good Shepherd Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria.
