Barbara K. OpelBarbara K. Opel (nee Allemeier), 63, of Wellington, passed away quietly at her home Friday, May 7, 2010 following a lengthy battle with cancer. She was born June 21, 1946 in Warren, Ohio. Barbara was a 1964 graduate of Midview High School and went on to work in various fields of accounting, including 7 years in an accounting firm, 7 years at a local radio station and the final 21 years at a manufacturing plant, retiring in 2001. Upon retirement her main passion was her grandchildren, and she was also blessed with special friends for activities such as shopping, traveling and golfing. Barbara is survived by her husband of 38 years; Thomas; sons Matthew (Renee') Opel of Lorain; Tyler (Heather) Opel of Lewis Center, OH; four wonderful grandchildren, Rhyan andReid of Lorain; Eli and Ava of Lewis Center; Clyde, sister Joyce Hogan of Elyria; brother John (Judy) Allemeier of Sullivan,; sister Linda (Kurt) Hanaway of Bluffton, South Carolina; many niecesand nephews and parents Henry and Betty Allemeier of Elyria. She was preceded in death by her niece, Ronda Hogan in 1977. The family will receive friends Tuesday, from 4 p.m. until the time of a 7 p.m. service at Dicken Funeral Home, 323 Middle Ave., Elyria with Reverend Kathryn Ketchum officiating. Burial will be in LaPorte Cemetery, Carlisle Township. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to New Life Hospice, 5255 N. Abbe Rd.
