Beverly Jane Wilbert, R.N., 93, of Oberlin, formerly of Cleveland, died peacefully Thursday November 3rd at home under the care of New Life Hospice.She was born January 17, 1918 in Cleveland to Daniel C. and Mabel (nee Strong) Wilbert. Her foster parents were Gertrude (nee Wilbert) and Charles Henry. She lived in Youngstown, Elyria, Lakewood, Cleveland and moved to Oberlin in 2007 to be near family. Beverly was a graduate of the Midyear 1936 Class of Elyria High School. After graduation, she attended Huron Road School of Nursing in East Cleveland from which she received her Nursing Degree in October 1941. She became a registered nurse in the State of Ohio in November of that year. Beverly served as a nurse with the U. S. Army during World War II from April 10, 1943 to November 23, 1945. During that time, and with the rank of first Lieutenant, Beverly served at the Nichols General Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky; with the 123rd General Hospital at Camp Sibert, Alabama and after D-Day in Hereford, England. After being mustered out of the army with an honorable discharge in 1945, Beverly worked for a brief time with the V.A. Hospital in Cleveland. In 1953 she took up the mantle as company nurse for the Cleveland Plant of E.I. Du Pont De Nemours & Co., Inc. She retired from DuPont when the Cleveland Chemical plant was closed in 1987 after 33 years of service at the age of 69. She was a life member of the Military Order of the World Wars in which she served as Vice-Commander. For many years she was a key organizer for reunions of the 123rd General Hospital Unit. Beverly was also a member of Quota International, a service organization that links members of all ages, occupations, and nationalities in a worldwide network of service and friendship. Her interests included animals, genealogy, shopping and keeping up with her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and foster parents, brothers Daniel, James, Edward, and a sister Lucille. She is survived by her sister Margaret and nephews Basil (Sami) Beuhler of Washington, NC, Robert Buehler of Victorville, CA and many Beuhler, Strong and Wilbert family nieces, nephews, and cousins including her caretaker, the Rev. Dr. Brian K. Wilbert (Yorki Encalada) of Oberlin. Known for her gregarious personality, Miss Wilbert is also survived by numerous friends and acquaintances. Friends will be received Sunday November 6th from 5 p.m. until the time of an 8:00 p.m. service at Dicken Funeral Home, 323 Middle Avenue, Elyria, OH. Following cremation a private interment service will take place at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman, OH with Miss Wilberts cousin, Father Wilbert officiating.
