John Charles William “Bill” Tattersall, 93, of Elyria, passed away July 11, 2021. He was born in Elyria January 22, 1928 to Edith and George Tattersall. Bill was a 1945 graduate of Elyria High School where he played football and basketball, and was both junior and senior class president. He received a bachelor degree from the University of Michigan in 1949, Juris Doctorate from Michigan Law School in 1951, and a Master of Laws degree from Case Western Reserve in 1958. From 1951 to 1954, Bill served in the US Air Force as a Special Agent of the Office of Investigations and attained the rank of captain. In 1954, Bill joined the law practice of Lawrence Ashenbaugh and Richard Horan, becoming a partner in 1962. In 1982, the firm Fauver & Fauver merged with the firm and formed Fauver, Tattersall & Gallagher. He was elected to four terms as Elyria City Solicitor from 1960 to 1968, and served as general counsel to the Elyria Board of Education for 38 years. Bill retired from the practice of law in 1998. He was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ, Elyria since 1940 where he served on the Board of Trustees. He was also an associate member of Congregational Church of the Valley in Scottsdale, Arizona. Bill was a member and past president of Elyria Rotary Club, a member and past commander of Elyria American Legion Post #12, and member of the Board of Trustees of Lorain County Community College for 10 years. He also served on the Board of Directors of Elyria YMCA and YWCA. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, a member of Elyria Lodge #787, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Cleveland and Al Koran Shrine. Recently, he celebrated the 65th anniversary of his marriage to the love of his life, Nora E. (nee Pickard). He is also survived by children, Charles Tattersall, Sarah Tattersall and John Tattersall; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and a sister, Lois Ohlemacher. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister Jean Schots. Friends will be received Saturday, July 17, 2021 from 9:30 am until the time of an 11:00 am service at Dicken Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 323 Middle Ave, Elyria. Reverend Dr. Janet A. Long, a fellow Rotarian, will officiate. Burial for the family will be at Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria.
