Calvin Thomin Obituary
Calvin L. Thomin, 89, of Elyria, died suddenly February 5, 2015 in Naples, FL.He was born August 27, 1925 in Hamilton, OH and was a 1943 graduate of Hamilton High School. During World War II, he served from 1943 to 1946 with the U.S. Navy Seabees in the Asiatic Pacific Theater and the Philippines. Upon return, Cal attended Miami University, Oxford, OH and graduated in 1949. He was employed by Ohio Casualty Insurance Company from 1949 until retiring as a senior underwriter in 1989. He was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ and a life member of the Seabee Veterans of America. Cal was a sports enthusiast. He was a little league manager, played in several basketball and softball leagues, was a dedicated walker, and a fan of the NFL and college sports. After retiring, he was a volunteer driver for Meals on Wheels. Cal had a unique sense of humor and through the years, enjoyed many car trips with his family.Cal is survived by his wife of 64 years, Phyllis E. (nee Tulk); son Michael (Patti) Thomin; daughters Susan (Jeffrey) Lillehei and Cyndi (John Reid) Thomin; grandchildren Michelle and Elizabeth Thomin and Shanda and Greg (Heather) Lillehei; great grandchildren Landon and Levi Lillehei and a brother. He was preceded in death by his parents William and Ethel Thomin and eight sisters.Friends will be received Thursday, February 12, 2015 from 5 to 8 P.M. at Dicken Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 323 Middle Ave., Elyria. A service will be Friday, February 13, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 330 Second St., Elyria with Reverend Patrick Nicolino officiating. Burial will be in Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Congregational United Church of Christ Food Pantry.
