Carol J. SmithCarol June (nee Elwing) Smith, age 87, passed away September 25, 2018 at UniversityHospitals Elyria Medical Center after a long illness. Born in Rossford, Ohio June 19, 1931, Carol lived most of her life in the Ohio communities of Rossford, Toledo and Columbus.On March 20, 1954, Carol married Richard D. Smith of Toledo, Ohio. They celebrated a 64thAnniversary this year prior to Richard's death in April.Carol was a member of Maple Grove United Methodist Church in Columbus, Ohio. She workedfor Philips Roxane Laboratories, Inc. in Columbus, Ohio until her retirement, and thenvolunteered as a docent at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, working in the North AmericaExhibit. A longtime member of York Temple Country Club in Columbus, Ohio, Carol liked playing golf with her family and friends. She enjoyed cooking, hosting holidays and celebrations, and spending time with her family at their homes throughout Ohio and Michigan.Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Richard D. Smith; her parents,Walter and Charlotte (nee Duncan) Elwing; sister, Jean Elwing, and her brothers, Larry andRichard Elwing.She is survived by her cousin, Karen Heebsh Paxton of Toledo, Ohio; sons,Jeffrey S. Smith (Chris) of Delaware, and Bradley D. Smith (Kathy) of Elyria, Ohio; grandchildren, Bailey K. Gerber (Elyria, Ohio), Andrew J. Smith (Delaware, Ohio), and Lukas V. Smith (Chicago,IIlinois) and great grandchildren, Madison L. and Jacob A. Gerber of Elyria.
