Carol Hargate Lamond Walker's Obituary
Carol Walker Obituary
Carol Hargate Lamond Walker, daughter of the Rev. G. Russel and Jane Hargate, passed peacefully July 30, 2021. Carol was a child of God, a gifted educator, a devoted mother, friend and mentor to many. She is survived by her sister, Joan Van Wormer of Elyria, Ohio; daughters, Nichola Dumanski and Pamela Jack of Phoenix, Arizona; grandchildren Augusta and James Dumanski, Walker and Andrew Jack; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Carol was born in 1936 in Toledo, Ohio. She grew up in Elyria, Ohio, where her father was the rector of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church for 31 years, and her mother worked in christian education for the Diocese of Ohio. Carol was active in the Girls Friendly Society, church choir, and community. She graduated from Elyria High School, and then from Lake Erie College, Painesville, Ohio. After working in art education at the Toledo Museum of Art, Carol married Nicholas Lamond-Walker and relocated to Phoenix, Arizona in the early 1960’s, where she lived until her death. Carol completed her Masters degree in Education from Arizona State University and was a public school teacher and administrator in the Phoenix Union High School System for over 30 years. Carol was always active in her local parish, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and later at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in downtown Phoenix. While at St. Paul’s, she started an outreach program, The Source and Resource, to connect christian education materials with parishes throughout the Diocese of Arizona. She eventually came to run the Trinity Cathedral Shop for many years. Carol was also fundamental in growing a four year ecumenical program called EFM, or Education for Ministry and in bringing the Godly Play program to the cathedral’s children's ministry. She is respected as a mentor, activist and friend. Her impact on those around her will be cherished. Carol loved to play bridge with her dear friends, was an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians and Phoenix Suns. She was a voracious reader and napper, and loved her ice cream sundaes. A service to celebrate Carol’s life will be Monday, October 4, 2021 at 11:00 am, in St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Elyria, Ohio with The Rev. June Hardy Dorsey and The Rev. Dr. Brian K. Wilbert officiating. Masks are required. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Organ Fund, 300 3rd Street, Elyria, OH, 44035 or Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, 100 W.
