Carol L. SharrockCarol L. Sharrock (nee Rice), 84, of Elyria, died December 13, 2018 in her home. She was born September 9, 1934 in Jackson, Ohio and was a 1952 graduate of Jackson High School. In 1956 she received a Bachelor of Education Degree in Music with a major in piano from Ohio University. While in college she led the college choir on a tour throughout Ohio. After thirty one and a half years of teaching vocal music in K-12, including show choir, Carol retired in 1998 from Sheffield and Sheffield Lake Schools. Carol was a charter member of Community United Methodist Church in Elyria where she had been church organist for over fifty years and bell choir director. It was an annual tradition for Carol and her daughter and granddaughter to attend the Honor Thy Mother Tea at the church. She was the founder of The Lorain Children’s Pioneer Theatre, a member and past dean and treasurer of American Guild of Organists, member and past president of both Elyria Womans’ Club and Fourthurs Club. She was a member of American Association of University Women and also Elyria, State and National Education Associations. Throughout their marriage she and her husband had enjoyed traveling extensively.Carol is survived by her husband of sixty years, Richard E.; sons, Steven R. Sharrock of Massillon and Kirk A. (Machelle) Sharrock of Marysville; daughter, Melody C. (Gary) Dyer of Elyria; grandchildren, Elizabeth and Jonathan Sharrock and Jacob and Arianna Dyer and a brother, Robert Rice of Jackson, Ohio.She was preceded in death by her parents, Willard and Elizabeth Rice. Friends will be received Sunday December 16, 2018 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Dicken Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 323 Middle Avenue, Elyria, Ohio. Friends will also be received Monday December 17, 2018 from 10:00 AM until the time of an 11:00 AM service at Community United Methodist Church, 680 North Abbe Road, Elyria. Pastor Kevin Coleman will officiate. Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the church.
