Carol Lakocy Obituary
Carol T. Lakocy, (nee Tonry) 86, a lifelong Elyria resident passed away March 3, 2023 at The Willows of Willard Health Care Center after a long battle with Parkinson’s and a recent bout of Covid. Carol was born at home (Broad St. Elyria) March 12, 1936. She was a proud Elyria High School graduate, treasurer of the Class of 1953 and an integral part of all Class of 1953 Reunions. Carol was a switchboard operator at Elyria Memorial Hospital, a secretary to the Assistant Superintendent and Elementary Supervisor for the Elyria City Schools, switchboard operator/receptionist and substitute secretary for the Elyria City Schools and finally retiring as the Student Activities Treasurer at EHS in 1998. She volunteered with Windsor School PTA, Elyria Jaycee-ettes, The Elyria Republican Women’s Club, Girl Scouts, YMCA Swim Team Synchronized Swim Team and funding drives for The American Heart Association, United Way, Cancer and Leukemia Societies. Carol was all about her family. She was a devoted, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and loved watching her children and grandchildren competing and performing. She owned Boxer Dogs (and 1 Spoodle mix) since 1958 usually having 2 or more at a time. Her “granddogs” often visited her at home and then at her assisted living apartment. Carol was an AVID die-hard Cleveland Indians fan, and was able to attend several World Series games in the 1990’s. She loved playing cards monthly with her card club and on Sundays with her sisters and brothers-in-law. She also enjoyed needlework with her Sew-n- Sews group for many years. Carol had many lifelong and close friends, some she had known since grade school, all that have remained close and supported her throughout her life and most recently with her Parkinson’s. If you knew Carol at all, you were probably the recipient of a Hallmark Card or 2…. or some Suzin L’s Chocolate. She was a true giver by nature and loved sharing herself through greeting cards and chocolate! Carol is survived by her children, Lynda Snyder, Tom (Michelle) Lakocy, Laurie (Dan) Chachko, Leslie (Greg) Rowe; adored grandchildren, Mel Badziong, Matt Snyder, Alex Lakocy, Kim Lakocy, Andrew Lakocy, Katie Chachko, Kelsie Chachko, Quinn Rowe and Makenna Rowe; cherished great-grandchildren, Tyler, Zoe and Mark Badziong, Eleanor and Madeline Lakocy and a sister; Audrey Miller.
