Catherine Stacey, 84, of Avon and formerly of Elyria, died December 19, 2013 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain.She was born June 21, 1929 in Ozone, Park, NY. She began her studies of piano at the age of 8, studying privately with Mrs. Arthur Giles and was a graduate of Oberlin High School. At the age of 15, Catherine was accepted into the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, studying piano with Professor David Moyer and orchestra conducting from Professor Donald Morrison. She then began her study of pipe organ at the age of 18. Catherine taught piano and organ in the Lorain County area for many years and was organist for the Lorain County Community Chorus presentation of Handels Messiah for 7 years under the direction of Reverend Thomas Curtis. She had been accompanist for many instrumentalists in the Elyria, Lorain, Avon Lake and LaGrange area. Catherine was a member, and since 1958, had been organist at St. Paul United Church of Christ, Elyria. She was a past officer of American Guild of Organists, member of Heavenly Chimers, St. Paul United Church of Christ Bell Ringers and enjoyed ballroom dancing.She was formerly employed by T. F. Gebhardt Associates for 28 years and in 1983, was Insurance Woman of the Year.Catherine is survived by her loving husband of 30 years, Hugh A. Stacey; daughters Bonnie K. (Mark) ODonnell, Constance J. Lorello; daughter-in-law Diane Norman; grandchildren Kimberly (Stephen) Millar, Matthew (Jenny) ODonnell, Maria (Nate) Manning, Valerie, Anthony (Maria) and Christopher (Brittany) Lorello, Katrina (Chris) OLeary and Krystin Cowe; great grandchildren Taylor and Emily Millar, Michaela and Brendon ODonnell, Kelsey Lorello, Donavan, Jordan and Aslyn OLeary, Torie and Jacob Cowe, Emily, Adriana and Lucas Lorello and Hunter, Lilly and Christopher Manning.She was preceded in death by a son Thomas Norman in 2009; parents Frank and Maria Gazas and also Jacob and Lillian Schramm, who raised her and their children Burnell, Erlin and Lavonne.A funeral service will be Saturday, December 21, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul United Church of Christ, 9715 East River St., Elyria with Reverend Bret S. Myers and Reverend C. Thomas French officiating. Entombment will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul United Church of Christ Organ Fund. Dicken Funeral Home, Elyria is handling arrangements.
