Charles R. Bomps Carter, 67, of Elyria, died peacefully September 2, 2014 in his home surrounded by family.He was born July 24, 1947 in Camden, NJ and was a 1967 graduate of Keystone High School. He had been a machinist at Swagelok Company in Strongsville (formerly Hy Level Industries) for 39 years.Chuck enjoyed drag racing, golf and bowling.He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Sandra L. (nee Sheldon); daughters Tara (Tom) Bohac of Elyria and Danielle (S.SGT. Gary) Welborn of Hopkinsville, KY; sons Geoffrey (Pamela) Sayers of Shelbyville, TN and Chris (Patty) Sayers of Grafton; grandchildren Alyssa, Meighan, Nick, Sierra, Jacob, C.J. and Austin and three great grandchildren; brothers Buford Carter of Lodi, Don Carter of Medina and John Carter of Elyria and several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by brother David Carter and parents Buford and Helen Carter.Family will receive friends Friday, September 5, 2014 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Dicken Funeral Home, 323 Middle Ave., Elyria where a service will be Saturday, September 6, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. Rev. Patty Jo Sheldon will officiate. Interment will be at River Road Cemetery, LaGrange Township.
