Charles W. Hammer, 98, of Elyria died January 21, 2016 at ONeill Healthcare, North Ridgeville. He was born September 12, 1917 in Elyria where he had been a lifelong resident. For many years, he operated the family farm on Abbe Rd. and was also employed at Kenco Pump Inc. in Lorain from its inception until retiring in 1979. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, active in the affairs of the church and instrumental in establishing and building the church at its current location. In addition to fishing, hunting, boating and camping, he enjoyed playing with his grandchildren and spending the winters with his wife in Pine Island, Florida.Charles is survived by a daughter, Patricia Hammer of Elyria; son, Robert Hammer of Palm Harbor, Florida; grandchildren; great grandchildren and a sister, Katherine Plott of Lorain.He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty eight years, Elfrieda in 1998; a daughter, Marcia, son, John, brother, George and his parents Charles and Jennie Hammer.Friends will be received Tuesday January 26, 2016 from 10:00 AM until the time of an 11:00 AM service at Grace Lutheran Church, 9685 East River Road, Elyria. Reverend Robert F. Weldon, Sr. will officiate. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace Lutheran Church. Arrangements are in the care of Dicken Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 323 Middle Avenue, Elyria.
