Charles A. Shaffer's Obituary
Charles A Shaffer, a faithful servant of the Lord, 94, of Elyria, was called home Saturday, May 23, 2026, at Wesleyan Village. He was born July 20, 1931 in Elyria and was a 1948 graduate of Elyria High School.
Charles worked hard all his life to support his family and retired from BF Goodrich working there for 37 years.
He was a member of Solid Rock Community Church and grew up in the First United Presbyterian church where he served as a Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday school teacher, sang in the choir and other ministries. Gardening and watching football were his favorite hobbies. He looked forward to annually traveling with his wife to Chicago for the Moody Bible Institute Founders Week which is the oldest and largest free Bible conference in the world.
He will be deeply missed by his friends and family.
Charles is survived by daughters, Karen (Sean) McGee of Hilliard and Diane (Keven) Wolford of Wakeman; grandchildren, Karelyn Randoph, Hannah (Rob) Rains, Deven (Sean) Brady, Michael (Mary) Slauter, Jessica (Max) Nudelman and Rachel (AJ) Frigo and 15 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Beatrice (nee McGinity); parents, Charles and Florence (nee Kaufman); daughter Rebecca Slauter; grandson, Dewayne Gault; brother, Bruce Shaffer and a sister, Marguerite Caton.
Friends will be received Thursday, May 28, 2026 from 5:00PM to 7:00PM at Dicken, Dovin & Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 323 Middle Avenue, Elyria. A funeral service will be Friday, May 29, 2026 at 10:00 am in the funeral home with Chaplain Melvin Saylor officiating. Burial will follow in Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria.
