Charlotte J. Wetzel's Obituary
Charlotte Wetzel Obituary
Charlotte J. Wetzel (nee Smith), 87, of Elyria went home to be with the Lord October 8, 2022. She was born January 16, 1935, in Bradford, PA moving to Elyria in 1960 where she lived most of her adult life. She was employed by Robert W. Meyers, insurance agent and Don Jones, as their secretary for 40 plus years. Charlotte was a member of the VFW Elyria Ladies Auxiliary, Sandusky American Legion Auxiliary, and the Italian American Club for many years. Charlotte loved her family deeply and they were the center of her life. She enjoyed dancing (especially ballroom) which she participated in almost every Friday through the years, golfing (she had several holes in one!), reading and while wintering in Florida laying out at the pool. She is survived by her son, Mike Wetzel and his partner Flavia Basaglia of Elyria; granddaughters, Alexandra of Portland, Oregon, Katelyn of Bentonville, Arkansas, Francesca of Chicago, Illinois and her son, Bob and wife Mae – granddaughters Jessica and Deanna Wetzel, and great grandsons Brian and Layton (of Tulsa, Oklahoma), as well as several nieces and nephews. Charlotte was preceded in death by her beloved partner of 28 years, Charles Millradt, who passed August 24, 2022; daughter-in law, Kristin O’Brien Wetzel; parents, John and Ada (nee Pfouts) Smith; brothers, Howard, John, Miller, Virgil, Lloyd, Marshall and Donald and sisters, Laura, Shirley Ann, Helen Smith Kempf and Margaret Smith Price. Charlotte’s contagious smile and enthusiasm, her love of life despite the many obstacles she faced in her fight against Alzheimer’s in her later years only served to set an example for each of us to follow and live by – life is precious, each day is a gift, and we shall be forever thankful for the joy Charlotte brought to our lives and all of the lives she touched. Friends will be received Friday, October 14, 2022 from 11:30 am until the time of a 12:30 pm service at Dicken Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 323 Middle Avenue, Elyria. Reverend Charles T. Diedrick will officiate. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon. The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to Susan G.
