Claudette Jeanne Mealwitz, 83, of Elyria, died October 31, 2021 peacefully in her sleep of natural causes. She was born November 29, 1937 in Canton, Ohio, where she was a graduate of Lehman High School in Canton, Ohio. In 1959, she received a B.S. in Home Economics Business from Kent State University. She was active both in her church and community – a volunteer at the Elyria Memorial Hospital coffee shop and the YWCA Kiwanis luncheons. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, the Metropolitan Club, Friends of the Elyria Library, Lorain County Historical Society, the Elyria Country Club and many bridge groups. Claudette was an international traveler and a passionate sports fan; she was a benefactor of Cleveland Art Museum, Cleveland Zoo, Cleveland Science Center, and Lutheran Hour Ministries. She was a connoisseur of fine dining and wines, a perfectionist of Betty Crocker recipes, and an Alpha Chi Omega sorority sister. Claudette is survived by husband of 62 years, Rev Dr. Peter Mealwitz; son Scott (Lisa) Mealwitz, of LaGrange, Ohio; daughter Kimberly (Daniele) Pausa, of Trieste, Italy; and son Todd Mealwitz, of Elyria, Ohio; grandchildren Nataniele and Emily Pausa, Christina, Matthew, and Kevin Mealwitz. Also surviving are her brothers Gary Chrien of Tampa, Florida; Steve Chrien of Houston, Texas; and Drew Chrien of Fort Myers, Florida. Memorial donations may be made to Grace Lutheran Church, 9685 East River Road, Elyria, Ohio or a charity of choice. A memorial service will be announced at a future date.
