Clifford Smith Obituary
Clifford H. Smith, 92, of Elyria and formerly of Grafton, died February 15, 2014 at Keystone Pointe in LaGrange under the care of Tridia Hospice.He was born October 31, 1921 in Bridgeport, WV to Hornor A. and Elsie Marie (Nee Paugh) Smith. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, stationed in Alaska and the Yukon Territory. He was mechanic and repaired heavy equipment used to construct the Alacan Highway. He then transferred to Cincinnati where he served in the military police unit. Cliff moved his family to Elyria in 1953 to work for Ohio Screw Products, until retiring in 1983He was a member of Washington Avenue Christian Church and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, bowling, reading and playing cards.Cliff is survived by daughters, Helen Marie Arcara of Cleveland, TN and Sharon Kay (John) Shaffstall; son, Kenneth Wayne (Priscilla Hefner) Smith, with whom he had resided and a daughter-in-law, Sheila M. Smith, all of Elyria; grandchildren, Lori (John) Lawton, Cheryl Ann Bray, Steven Duane Bray, Trisha Lynnae Smith, Heather Ann (Rocky) Overstreet, Jason Ray Shaffstall, Justin Steven Shaffstall, Lisa Marie (Jason) Ward, Jeremy Allen (Heidi) Smith; 15 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren; He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha May (nee Shreve) Smith in 1996; son Clifford W. Smitty Smith in 2006; brothers, Denver and Hershel Smith; sister, Vivian Mossor and his longtime companion, Esther Addie Buczak.Friends will be received Tuesday, February 18, 2014 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Dicken Funeral Home, 323 Middle Ave., Elyria.A funeral service will be Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at 11:00 AM in the funeral home with Reverend Janet A. Long officiating.Burial will be in Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria, where Elyria V.F.W. #1079 will present military honors.
