Dale Herman Bally, Sr.Dale Herman Bally, Sr., 81, of Elyria, died March 22, 2018 at his home after a brief illness.He was born April 26, 1936 in Ashland, Ohio and his family relocated to Elyria in 1943.He attended St. John’s Lutheran Church and was a 1954 graduate of Elyria High School . He was a member of the Elyria Roll Arena Skate Club and dance skated competitively in Ohio, Indiana, and Michigan. He honed his skills in the family business, “The Bally Company,” and eventually branched off to form his own business “Dale’s Floor and Wall Covering,” which was successful throughout Northeast Ohio. Many folks today still comment on what a great tile/carpet job Dale had done. He resided in Elyria, married, and raised six children and numerous kids from the neighborhood who helped put up the summer pool. He vacationed with his family at Drummond Island, Michigan. In time, he bought property there and soon became the Tile Guy of Drummond Island. He enjoyed fishing, camping, NASCAR, and storytelling. (And oh what stories could he tell!) Even through a 0-16 season, he remained a loyal Cleveland Brown’s fan. He loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren dearly and was their “GRAND” pa-pa.Dale is survived by his daughter, Jeanne A. Gales of Elyria, sons, Dale H., Michael A. (Nancy), Mark S. (Twila), Darryl K. of Elyria, and David W. of Newark, Ohio. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, his sister, JoAnn Smith, brothers, Dean (Nadine) of Elyria, Jim (Irene) of Oberlin, and Ronald (Mary) of Powell, Ohio, and a ton of nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by an infant son, Dennis Bryan Bally, his parents, Herman Stoner Bally and Esther Jane (nee: Shearer), brother, Carlton Ray Bally, brother-in-law, Earl William Smith, granddaughter, Robin Dawn Bally and grandson, Stephen Nicholas Bally.Friends will be received Monday March 26, 2018 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Dicken Funeral Home, 323 Middle Ave. Elyria. A funeral service will be Tuesday March 27, 2018 at 11:00 am in the Funeral Home with Pastor Becki Verbridge officiating.
