Darwin A. Lou Mau, 84, of Elyria, died January 1, 2012 at Life Care Center of Elyria.He was born May 5, 1927 in Cattaraugus, NY, graduated from Cattaraugus High School in 1945 and served with the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1946. He graduated in 1950 with a bachelor degree in music education from State Teachers College at Fredonia, NY. He also graduated in 1951 from Conn Music Institute, School of Instrument Repair, Elkhart, Indiana, moving to Elyria to work at Driscol Music Stores in Elyria and Lorain.He was employed for 40 years at Sears Service Department, retiring as parts manager.He was a member of SPEBSQSA, where he sang in barbershop choruses, directed and arranged music. For several years, he portrayed Johnny Appleseed at the Johnny Appleseed District conventions and also was district secretary, president and served as an international officer. He directed the Elyria Chapter Chorus, the Sweet Adelines Chorus in Elyria and Ashland and coached various quartettes. He was an avid gardener with distinct knowledge of plants of the bible and cared for the gardens at First Congregational United Church of Christ, where he was a 50 year member.Lou is survived by his wife of 61years, Priscilla J. Penny; daughter Gail Lindamood (David) of Cadillac, MI; son Jeffery Mau (Leena) of North Royalton, OH; grandsons Benjamin (Kristie), Nicholas (Cara) and Drew Lindamood; Zachary and Matthew Mau.A memorial service will be Saturday 11:00 a.m., January 7, 2012 at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 330 Second Street, Elyria. Reverend Jerry L. Murphy will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to the Elyria Public Library, 320 Washington Ave., Elyria, OH 44035 or First Congregational United Church of Christ music ministries.
