David Reichert Obituary
David Conrad Reichert, 86, of Elyria, died August 8, 2020 at Mercy New Life Hospice, Lorain. He was born May 16, 1934 in Buffalo, NY and was a 1953 graduate of Kensington High School. He graduated from Erie County Technical Institute where he studied engineering and design. From 1955-1959 he served in the US Navy as a Lieutenant JG Pilot and then for 20 years in the Naval Reserves. He later was a pilot for Mohawk and Southwest Airlines for 6 years. For a brief time, he was manager of Reichert and Friedel Liquor Store, Buffalo, NY during his father’s last illness. He accepted a position as Air Traffic Controller in Oberlin retiring in 1973. He then designed homes for builders in Lorain County and for 20 years owned and operated Dave Reichert Enterprises, Inc. Dave was a member of Elyria AMVETS Post 32, a 50 year member year member of Elyria American Legion Post 12 and a supporter of the Lorain County Food Bank. Dave is survived by children, Cheryl Y. (Reggie) Davis of Eminence, KY, Michael W. (Jan) Witbeck and Jason S. (Jen) Reichert both of Pleasureville, KY, Elizabeth R. (Eric) Ostergaard and Suzanne M. Horner both of Elyria; 15 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; sister Virginia Domers; and his ex-wife and live-in friend Alberta Gregory Reichert. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ada L. Reichert in 1993; daughter, Teresa C. Winarski in 2018; parents, Conrad and Shonett Reichert; and sisters, Marilyn Reichert and Dorothy Colern. Friends will be received Friday, August 14, 2020 from 11:00 am until the time of a 1:00 pm memorial service at Dicken Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 323 Middle Avenue, Elyria with Reverend Kathryn Ketchum officiating. Elyria VFW Post 1079 will conduct military honors prior to the service. Due to COVID-19 precautions, face coverings are required. Burial will be in Birmingham Township Cemetery, Florence Township.
