Delmar Lee Carpenter, 81, of Lorain, died January 18, 2016 at Mercy Regional Medical Center surrounded by his family.Born January 31, 1934 in Marietta, OH, he attended Marietta High School and has been a resident of Elyria most of his life. Delmar was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean War and a member of the U.S. Army Ski Team and a U.S. Army Golden Gloves lightweight champion.For 29 years, he was employed as a machinist for the former Pfaudler Company in Elyria before its closing and had also worked for Cleveland Plain Dealer and Pinkerton as a security officer. He enjoyed fishing, especially the shores of Lake Erie.Delmar is survived by his wife of 46 years, Mariann L. (nee Phelps); sons Kenneth A. (Lisa) Lindsey of Lorain and Keith A. (Tanya) Lindsey of Round Rock, TX; 4 granddaughters; sisters Dixie and Diane and a brother Dean Lee Carpenter.He was preceded in death by sisters Dorothy, Dora and Donna, brother Dale and parents Harold and Glenda Carpenter.Friends will be received Monday, January 25, 2016 from noon until the time of a 1:00 p.m. service at Dicken Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 323 Middle Ave., Elyria with Pastor Albert Phelps officiating. Burial will be Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman, OH.
