Dennis L. Johns, 65, a lifelong resident of Elyria, died Wednesday, November 23, 2011 in his home following a brief illness. He was born July 22, 1946 in Elyria and was a 1964 graduate of Midview High School. He was employed as a machinist at Duffin Manufacturing in Elyria for 21 years and also at Tractor Supply Company in Amherst.Dennis was a volunteer for over 30 years with the Lorain County Metroparks and was a member of the Carlisle Township Historical Society. He enjoyed nature and the outdoors, crocheting, working math problems, puzzles and reading. He is survived by wife of 45 years, Judy A. (nee Brophy); daughters Dawn M. (James) Bell of Elyria and Diane K. (Michael) Baird of Colorado; brother David K. Johns of Phoenix, AZ; sister Marilyn K. Thompson of Johns Creek, GA; grandchildren Alicia Valentine, Kyle Smith, David Sukel and Kaitlyn Bell and special friends Chris Sukel and Jeanette Hornby. He was preceded in death by his father Kenneth V. Johns in 1990; mother Bernice D. (nee Clinesmith) in 2010 and a grandson Alexander James Sukel. A memorial service will be Saturday 10:00 a.m., December 3, 2011 at LaPorte United Methodist Church, 2071 Grafton Rd., Elyria, OH 44035 with Rev. Jonathan McCleery officiating.
