Dewayne D. Stringer, 51, of Elyria, died suddenly October 9, 2016 in his home.He was born July 5, 1965 in Chicago, IL and was a resident of Elyria most of his life.Dewayne was a 1982 graduate of Open Door Christian School, where he played basketball and attended Campbellsville College in Campbellsville, Kentucky. He had worked with physically and mentally handicapped adults in both private and group homes. His interests included reading, mind challenging games, watching and playing soccer and spending time with his children.Dewayne is survived by sons Caleb W. and Isaac C. Stringer and a daughter, Rebekah D. Stringer, all of Martinsville, IN; parents Dennis D. and Linda Lou Stringer (nee Butcher) of Elyria; sisters Linda D. (David) Marchbanks of Salisbury, IN, Cindy L. (Steve) Coleman of Powell, TN and Cheryl Stringer of Elyria; 8 nieces and nephews and 4 great nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his grandparents.Friends will be received Wednesday, October 12, 2016 from 11 a.m. until the time of a 1:00 p.m. service at Dicken Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 323 Middle Ave., Elyria. Pastor David Marchbanks, brother-in-law, will officiate. Burial will be in Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria where Elyria V.F. W. #1079 will present military honors.
