Donald Provoznik Obituary
Donald A. Provoznik (born Anthony Donald), 88, of Valley City since August of 1969 joined his parents, James and Egidia (née Meo) in Paradise February 9, 2023. Born at home on Abbe Rd. in Elyria June 4, 1934, he was the third of four children. He was raised on the south side of Elyria until the age of 12. After graduating from Holy Cross School, his family moved to a 120 acre farm on N. Hawley Rd. in Pittsfield where he continued his education at Oberlin High School. Don was an avid boxer securing a 1953 flyweight Golden Glove championship. He was honorably discharged from the US Army where he proudly served his country in the 101st Airborne Division. Don had a strong work ethic, often working two jobs to support his family. His two main employers were Tappan for 30 years and Royal Wire Products for 13 years. The skills he learned as a child to provide food for the table were passed on to his children. His hobbies included hunting, trapping and raising chickens. Don also enjoyed listening to baseball and football games. He especially enjoyed going to state competition wrestling matches. Don and his former wife, Barbara Provoznik (nee Slater - deceased) together shared five children, Paul A., Susan E., Steven J. (Robert S.), Michael S. (Shelley L.) and Donald D. Provoznik, all of Ohio. He is also survived by ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; his brother, James (Aiko-deceased); sister, Frances Mackovjak-Elmore (Ed Machovjak and Robert Elmore both deceased); brother, Clarence (aka Spider and Bitsy) and nineteen nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; nephew, Patrick Provoznik; great-nephew, Nicholas Roberts; great-great nephew, Finnegan Minchen; grandparents and many aunts, uncles and cousins. The family wishes to acknowledge the hard work and dedication given to their father over the past year by his son Michael and his daughter-in-law Shelley. He was always proud his parents were first generation - his mother’s family from Campobasso, Italy and his father’s family from Kolin, Bohemia.
