Donald H. Harbeck, 86, of Elyria, died March 13, 2016.He was born July 15, 1929 in Black Creek, NY and was a 1947 graduate of Cuba Central High School, Cuba NY. From 1952 to 1956, Don served as a sergeant in the United States Air Force. He was then employed for 29 years as an air traffic controller, retiring in 1984 from the Federal Aviation Administration in Oberlin. His passion was flight and at the age of 16, he attained his pilot license. Don flew experimental aircraft and built two ultralight aircraft and a replica World War I German airplane. He attended Abbe Road Baptist Church in Elyria.Don is survived by his wife of 59 years, Evelyn; sons James of Enterprise, Oregon, John of Vermilion, OH and Jay of Avon, OH; grandchildren, Justine, Jenna, Elizabeth, John, Sarah, Levi and Jillian; great granddaughter, Everly; brother Richard and sisters, Joyce Farr and June Adams.He was preceded in death by his parents John and Elva Harbeck.Friends will be received Friday, March 18, 2016 from 2:00 p.m. until the time of a 3:00 p.m. memorial service at Dicken Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 323 Middle Ave. Elyria. Pastor Cal Searles will officiate. Burial will be in Black Creek Cemetery, Black Creek, NY. Memorial contributions may be made to Abbe Rd. Baptist Church, 670 N. Abbe Rd. Elyria, OH 44035.
