Donald J. BarryDonald J. Barry, 89, of Elyria, died September 20, 2013 at Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky.He was born August 17, 1924 in Elyria, was a lifelong Elyria resident and attended Elyria High School.He is a World War II Navy veteran, serving in the Pacific Theater, including Japan on the troop carrier USS Elmore APA-42, earning eight battle stars. Don was employed at Bendix Corporation for 35 years, retiring in 1981 as an inspector in the receiving department. He was a life member and past commander of Elyria V.F.W. #1079 and was also a member of the Elyria Polish Club. His interests included woodworking, walking outdoors with his dog and he had been a former coach at Elyria Little League West. He enjoyed musicals, his favorite being Singing In The Rain.Don is survived by sons John E. (Jackie) Barry of Mesa, AZ, Michael R. (Sandra) Barry of St. Augustine, FL and Dennis S. (Ruth) Barry of South Amherst; four grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Anne I. (nee Brattoli) in 2000 and parents John and Helen Barry.Friends will be received Tuesday, September 24, 2013 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at Dicken Funeral Home, 323 Middle Ave. Elyria, OH 44035.A noon graveside service will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst, Township, where Elyria V.F.W #1079 will present military honors.Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimers Association, P.O.
