Donald Ensminger Obituary
Donald K. EnsmingerDonald K. Ensminger, 86, of Raleigh, North Carolina and formerly of Elyria, passed away peacefully November 27, 2018 after a lengthy illness. He was born October 12, 1932 in Smithfield, West Virginia to Ernest O. and Pearl B. (nee Burdine) Ensminger. After graduation, Don served in the US Air Force during the Korean War for which he received a bronze star. He married the love of his life, Janice Daugherty, February 11, 1965. Don was employed at the General Motors CPC Plant in Parma and retired after thirty eight years. He adored his family and especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. He played basketball in high school and enjoyed watching college basketball, cheering on the Duke Blue Devils.He is survived by his daughters, Kimberly (Ed) Hollingsworth of Raleigh, North Carolina and Randi Smallwood of Elyria; sisters, Lorraine Schamp of Wheeling, West Virginia and Patricia (Ron) Tucker of South Amherst; brother, Fred (Delores) Ensminger of Moundsville, West Virginia; grandchildren, Cameron, Nicholas and Madison Hollingsworth, Tommy Newsom, Purvie II and Tiarra Smallwood, Bethany Hejnal, Christie Foy and Jeremy Ensminger; eleven great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his wife of thirty eight years, Janice Ensminger in 2003; son, Christopher Ensminger and his parents. The family will receive friends Sunday December 2, 2018 from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at Dicken Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 323 Middle Avenue, Elyria, Ohio. A funeral service will be Monday December 3, 2018 at 11:00 AM in the funeral home. Reverend Cal Searles, Pastor of Abbe Road Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will follow at Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria where Elyria VFW # 1079 will present military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl, Memphis, TN 38105.
