Donald Williams, 93, of Elyria, died April 15, 2017 in his home. He was born May 16, 1923 in Westlake, OH and was a 1941 graduate of North Ridgeville High School.Don served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater with the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946, during World War II and received two purple hearts. He had proudly participated in Honor Flight Cleveland to Washington D.C. Don was employed as a diesel mechanic at Cleveland Builders Supply, retiring in 1985. He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Elyria V.F.W. #1079 and held a private pilots license. He was a car enthusiast, member of the “T-Bird” Club and enjoyed working alongside his son Bob on their cars. Other interests included woodworking, spending time with family and helping with family needs.He and his wife had traveled throughout the United States including Alaska and Hawaii and had also made trips to Europe and the Caribbean. Don and his wife Evelyn (Oebker) went on their first date 80 years ago and have been married for the past 70 years. He will be dearly missed by daughter Bonnie (Bob) Mathias and Donna (Tom) Duplessie and daughter-in-law Jean Williams, all of Elyria; grandchildren, Brad and Ashley Williams, Kristen and Geoff (Stephanie) Mathias and Matthew, Trey (Cheryl) and Brenton Duplessie; great grandchildren, Brody Williams, John Danko, Jr., Ailani and Colin Mathias and Tyson and Charlotte Duplessie. He was preceded in death by a son, Bob in 2005; great granddaughter, Anastasia Mathias; parents, Nathan and Marie Williams; sister, Dorothy Stine and a brother Nathan Williams. Friends will be received Saturday, May 6, 2017 from 10 a.m. until the time of an 11:00 a.m. memorial service at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 360 Princeton Ave., Elyria. Reverend Paul E. Jaster, will officiate and Elyria V.F.W #1079 will present military honors. Inurnment will be at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman, OH.
