Donna M. Smith (nee: Bommer), 91, of Elyria, died December 28, 2016 under the care of Mercy New Life Hospice. She was born September 9, 1925 in Avon and was a 1943 graduate of Avon High School, moving to Elyria in 1949. For fifteen years she was employed at Stanadyne Incorporated in Elyria, retiring in 1983. Donna was a member of Saint Jude Church, Elyria, The Altar and Rosary Society and Bereavement Committee of the church and was a life member of Elyria VFW #1079 Auxiliary. Donna is survived by daughters, Mary Lou (Bill) Van Wagnen of Powell, OH, Joanne Richards and Patricia (Jim) Stephens, both of Elyria; six grandchildren; a great granddaughter; brothers, Frank, Edward, Aloysius and Charles Bommer and sisters, Anita Stockard and Barbara Ladegaard, all of Avon. She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-seven years, Earl R. Smith in 2006; grandson, Paul Van Wagnen; parents, William and May Bommer; brothers, Robert, William and Raymond Bommer and sisters, Evelyn Chapman and Rita Boone. A memorial mass will be Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Jude Church, 590 Poplar Street, Elyria. Reverend Father Frank P. Kosem will be the Celebrant. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, Avon. Memorial contributions may be made to Mercy New Life Hospice, 3500 Kolbe Road, Lorain 44053.
