Dorothy D. Freeland (nee: Bruce) 88, of Elyria died August 20, 2014 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain. She was born November 23, 1925 in Amherst and has been a resident of Elyria most of her life, graduating from Elyria High School in 1944. For ten years she was employed at The Lutheran Home For The Aged in Westlake retiring in 1987 as supervisor of laundry services. Dorothy was a member of Elyria VFW # 1079 Auxiliary and for many years enjoyed bowling. In addition to being an avid reader, other interests included crossword puzzles, rose gardening and bingo. Dorothy is survived by daughters, Julie A. (Gregory) Richmond of Elyria with whom she made her home and Caroline M. (Craig) Collins of Owings, Maryland; grandchildren, David and Grant Richmond and Jackie Davis; great grandchildren, Tyson Davis, Amirah Kuri, Corbin Richmond and (Palmer Richmond, to be born November 2014); sister, Esther Hayes of Elyria; brothers, Charles and Alfred Bruce both of Elyria and Henry Schieferstein of Melbourne, Florida.She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry D. Freeland in 1983; parents, Carl and Julia Bruce and a brother Gerald Bruce.Friends will be received Sunday August 24, 2013 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Dicken Funeral Home, 323 Middle Avenue, Elyria. A funeral service will be Monday August 25, 2014 at 11:00 AM in the funeral home with Reverend Christopher D. Robinson, Chaplin of New Life Hospice, officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township. Memorial contributions may be made to New Life Hospice, 3500 Kolbe Road Lorain 44053.
