Dorothy Mae Dovala (nee Blake), 98, of Lorain, was called home by our Lord February 19, 2023 after a lengthy illness. She was born September 8, 1924 in Elyria, the only child of Oscar and Julia (nee Mraz) Blake. She grew up in Elyria and was a 1942 graduate of Elyria High School. Dorothy was employed as a secretary at Thew Shovel Division of Elyria until her marriage to Emil Dovala September 30, 1950. She moved to Lorain and worked along side her husband, who owned & operated the Emil Dovala Funeral Home in South Lorain until he retired after 50 years. Dorothy was the oldest living member of Christ Lutheran Church, Lorain. She enjoyed listening to music, laughing and was a lover of animals. Dorothy is survived by a daughter, Linda Milchen of Amherst; son, Dennis (Laurie) Dovala of Amherst; and a daughter and caregiver, Cindy Dovala of Elyria; grandchildren, Michelle Milchen, Matthew (Janel) Dovala and Daniel Dovala; great-grandsons, Ashton and Atticus Dovala. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Emil in 2010; son, Wayne “Buddy” Dovala in 2020; parents, Oscar and Julia Blake; son-in-law, William Milchen and grandchildren, Nicole and Nathan Milchen. Friends will be received Thursday, February 23, 2023 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Dicken Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 323 Middle Avenue, Elyria. A funeral service will be Friday, February 24, 2023 at 10:30 am at Christ Lutheran Church, 4501 Clinton Avenue, Lorain with Reverend Laurie A. Miller officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Friendship Animal Protective League, 8303 Murray Ridge Road, Elyria or the Alzheimer’s Association, 37309 Harvest Drive, Avon, Ohio 44011.
