Dorothy Kotnik Obituary
Dorothy May Kotnik (nee Selzer), 92, of Elyria, passed away peacefully June 5, 2017 at home surrounded by her family, under the care of Hospice of the Western Reserve, following a brief illness. She was born March 25, 1925 in Medina, Ohio and was a 1943 graduate of Medina High School. After graduation she worked at the match factory in Wadsworth, OH and then moved to Elyria and was employed making bicycle seats at The Troxel Company. Dorothy met Mike in 1941 while they were both visiting their sisters who lived in the same apartment building in Elyria. She married Michael Kotnik September 28, 1946 at First United Methodist Church, Elyria. Dorothy was a devoted, life-long member of the United Methodist Church and was active in United Methodist Women, Elizabeth Stevens and the prayer circle and choir at church. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and served as a Cub Scout Den Mother and PTA volunteer. Dorothy loved spending time with her family, friends, and neighbors, sharing delicious home cooked meals, with plenty of vegetables from Mike’s garden, and her famous cookies and pies. She will be remembered for her generous, kind, loving heart, quick wit, contagious laughter, and strong faith shared through her care for, commitment to, and unending prayers for those she loved. She found hope and joy in the promise of God’s unconditional love and never-ending presence, and was comforted by the words Jesus spoke in Luke 23:43, “Truly I say to you, today you shall be with Me in Paradise.” Dorothy is survived by her husband of 70 years, Michael Kotnik; son John (Diana) Kotnik of Groveport, Ohio; daughters Barbara (Chad) Hook of Amherst, Ohio and Connie (Joe) Smart of Chillicothe, Ohio.
