Douglas D. Beattie, 65, of Elyria, died December 13, 2014 at his home.He was born March 1, 1949 in Lorain, where he was a 1967 graduate of Lorain High School. He attended Bowling Green State University and Lorain County Community College and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.Doug was employed as a machinist for 32 years at Nordson Corporation in Amherst and Elyria, from where he retired. He was a member of St. Mary Church, Elyria and the Elyria Moose Club. He enjoyed spending time with his family, riding his motorcycle with friends and all sports. He was a lover of animals, especially his Jack Russell Terrier.Doug is survived by his wife of 37 years, Dawn M. (nee Price); daughter Brooke Marie Beattie of Elyria; sister Diane Beattie, one niece and four nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents William and Eulalie Beattie and a brother Charles Beattie.Friends will be received Saturday, December 20, 2014 from 12:30 P.M. until the time of a 2:00 P.M. service at Dicken Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 323 Middle Ave., Elyria. Reverend Father Charles T. Diedrick will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to Friendship Animal Protective League, 8303 Murray Ridge Rd., Elyria, OH 44035.
