Douglas Philion Obituary
Douglas J. Philion, 78, of Elyria, died September 25, 2019. He was born July 25, 1941 in Elyria and was a 1959 graduate of Elyria High School. From 1959-1963 he served as a canine handler with the United States Air Force. He was employed at Airborne Manufacturing, Elyria, Kenco Pump, Lorain, and when he lived in Virginia from 1988-2000, at VAMAC, Midlothian and American Manufacturing Co., Inc., Front Royal. Doug was a member of Church of the Open Door, Elyria; Elyria United Polish Club, Elyria American Legion Post #12, Oberlin VFW Post #6273, Elyria AmVets Post #32; and was Vice Commander of American Legion Post #53, Front Royal, VA. He was a volunteer fireman and EMT, president of the Elyria Township Fire Department Association, chairman of the Elyria Township Zoning Commission, and both security officer and volunteer at EMH Regional Medical Center. Doug is survived by a son, Aaron (Heather) Philion of Elyria; daughter, Kara Lemley of San Antonio, TX; grandchildren, Shana, Madison, Chase, and Kasidee; great-granddaughter, Willow; twin brother, David (Ann) Philion of Grafton; sister, Marcia (Charles) Harrigan of Midlothian, VA; sister-in-law Donna Philion of Woodbury, MN, and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Heather Philion (2006); brother, Ronald (1999); and parents, Leonard (1979) and Julianna Philion (2003). Friends will be received Saturday, October 26, 2019 from 1:00 pm until the time of a 3:00 pm service at Dicken Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 323 Middle Avenue, Elyria. Reverend Kathy Ketchum will officiate. Elyria VFW #1079 will present military honors at 3:00 pm in the funeral home.
