Edith Alley Obituary
Edith Virginia Alley (nee Jarrells), 95, of Elyria, passed away peacefully June 30, 2021 at Wesleyan Village. She was born April 13, 1926 in Allisonia, VA, one of 15 children born to Matthew and Ethel Jarrells. Edith married the love her life, Bill Smith Alley March 24, 1942. She was a member of Sugar Ridge Baptist Church, and over the years was known for bringing new people with her to church to learn about the Lord. Throughout her life, she held many positions in the church, including Sunday School teacher, Bible School teacher and Womens’ Mission Groups Leader. Her faith in God, family and friends meant everything to her and was evident in how she lived her life. Edith knew the Bible inside and out and studied it daily. She had also been a volunteer at Elyria Memorial Hospital and Wesleyan Village. She enjoyed word puzzles, board games with family and friends (she ALWAYS won!), reading and quilting. Left to cherish Edith’s memory are daughters, Peggy (Larry) Snyder of Sun City, AZ, Linda (Rick) Schau of Wakeman, OH; son, Bill (Jackie) Alley of Clover, SC; grandchildren, Julie (Dan) Cassels, Jeff (Robin) Snyder, Jerry (Shelly) Snyder, Lisa (Judd) Patterson, Shelene (Joe) Baker and Amy (Jim) Kelly; 15 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great grandchildren; siblings, Danny, Matthew, Steve and Stella; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bill in 1979; grandchildren, Nick Alley and Debra Sayers; great-great-granddaughter, Savannah; sisters, Almeta, Linda, Brenda, Betty, Frances and Maxine; brothers, Kanawha, Leonard, Albert and Donny; and her parents. Friends will be received Tuesday, July 6, 2021 from 10:00 am until the time of a 12 noon service at Dicken Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 323 Middle Ave., Elyria. Mr. Jeff Smith, of Calvary Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria.
