Elaine Longbrake Obituary
Elaine S. Longbrake, 81, of Elyria, died June 22, 2023 in her home. She was born September 26, 1941 in Lodi, Ohio and was a 1959 graduate of Medina Senior High School. She had been employed as a credit balance analyst at Elyria Memorial Hospital from 1967 until retiring in 2008. After being retired for a short-time, she went back to work part-time at the hospital for another 5 years. Elaine enjoyed time with friends, collecting teddy bears and garage sales. She was an avid reader and loved watching BBC mysteries. She was a devout animal lover, especially her cat, Coco. Elaine is survived by her daughter, Michele (Todd) Hahn of Lorain; son, William (Laurie) Mertes, Jr. of Elyria; grandchildren, Seth, Ashlie and Zoe Hahn, Krysta, Adora, Cameron and Madison Mertes, Katrina Hart and Phillip and Nathaniel Lilly; step-daughters, Bethany Cherney and Brittany Montgomery; step-grandchildren, Chase and Jacob Bailey and Morgan Henes; sister, Carol L. (George) Dennison; brother, Jon R. (Sandy) Christy; sister-in-law, Janice Christy; nephews, Jon (Honesty) and Jason Christy and nieces, Jennifer (Terry) Paulinsky and Miranda Christy. She was preceded in death by husband, Clarence Longbrake in 1994; mother, Carole J. Lacquement; father, Robert W. Christy; brother, Robert W. Christy; step-father, Arthur Lacquement; maternal grandmother, Carolyn Light; paternal grandfather, Rev. Carey Christy; niece, Jody Van Fleet; and ex-husbands, William Mertes, Sr and George Cherney. A graveside service will be Thursday, July 6, 2023 at 1:00 pm at Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria with Reverend Christine Vanderbilt officiating.
