Elder Charley Obituary
Elder Linda V. Charley, 57, of Elyria died January 1, 2016.She was born November 7, 1958 in Elyria and was a 1978 graduate of Elyria High School. She also received a degree as a licensed cosmetologist from the Lorain County Joint Vocational School and was a graduate of Warren Bible Institute, which certified her as a teacher through Wheaton Bible College. She was employed as a sleep technician in the sleep lab at University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center.Linda was first of all, a child of God, accepted her call into the ministry in 1993 and was ordained in the North Ohio Annual Conference in 1999. She was a student of The McCreary African American Religious Studies School and was a graduate of Ashland Theological Seminary, where she also received a Master of Arts degree in Christian Ministry and Black Church Studies. In 2007, she was ordained as an elder and in 2014 received her degree as Doctor of Philosophy from Newburgh Theological Seminary.Elder Charley has served as assistant minister of Jones Chapel A.M.E. Church in Elyria and as pastor of St. James A.M.E. Church in Youngstown and St. Luke Independent Church of Alliance.Linda is survived by daughter Shauntae M. Charley of Atlanta, GA; sons Reverend Montell D. (Nicole) Charley of Lorain and Craig Bonton of Columbus; 7 grandchildren; mother Doris Horton; sisters Dorothy Price, Nellie Jackson, Mary Horton and Cathy Gross; brothers Dan Horton, Jr., Jack Horton, Sr., John Horton, Sr. and James Bonds; godson Art Sutton, Jr. and a host of nieces and nephews and friends.She was preceded in death by her husband George E. Charley in 2014; fathers James Estes and Dan Horton, Sr. and a son Marcellis Bailey.It was Elder Charleys desire to be all that she can be for the Lord, by allowing God to be the center of her thoughts, words and deeds. She truly loved the Lord and gave Him the best of her service.Friends will be received Tuesday, January 5, 2016 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Dicken Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 323 Middle Ave., Elyria. A service will be Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 1516 East 30th St. Lorain, OH. Pastor Donald K. Young will officiate.
