Eleanor B. Vargo (nee Traczek), 90, a longtime Elyria resident, died February 10, 2016.Eleanor was born December 21, 1925 in Elyria. From 1947 to 1962, she and her husband owned and operated Bill Vargos Grocery and Meats in Elyria and were also the original owners of Ripple Cream on Cleveland St. in Elyria. She was employed for 14 years by Meyer Goldberg Grocery Stores and for 12 years, at the State Liquor Store in Elyria, from where she retired in 1990. Eleanor was a member of St. Mary Church, the Holy Name Society and Altar and Rosary Society of the church. She was also a member of Elyria United Polish Club Auxiliary and enjoyed cooking and sharing recipes with her grandchildren.Eleanor is survived by sons Robert A. (Maryann) Vargo of Norwalk, William J. (Donna) Vargo of Alabama and Kenneth M. (Juanita) Vargo of Wellington; daughters Gloria (Thomas) Tubbs of Colorado, Christine (Larry) Sweeney of Elyria and Brenda (Carl) Leslie of Arizona; 13 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her husband William Vargo, Sr. in 1982.Friends will be received Monday, February 15, 2016 from 3 to 6 p.m. at Dicken Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 323 Middle Ave., Elyria. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Church, 320 Middle Ave., Elyria with Reverend Fr. Charles T. Diedrick officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
