Ella Marie Archer died peacefully October 3, 2022 at the age of 103. She was preceded in death by her husband Harold Archer and her parents Ignatz and Eleanora Miller, along with all 9 of her siblings. Marie is survived by her children Larry (Arlene) Archer, Elaine (William) Hammond, Kevin Archer, and Randy Archer. She will be dearly missed by her 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren. She is also remembered by many nieces, nephews, and friends. Marie was born the 7th of 10 children on a farm in Fulda, Ohio. She spoke German as a young child until learning English in school and developed a no-nonsense work ethic growing up on the farm. Some of her family’s favorite stories involve the antics of Marie and her siblings as they were growing up, always finding a way to weave some mischief into the day’s hard work. As a wife and mother, Marie could be found canning fruits, making jams, or sewing clothes for her children. Her kids were particularly happy when she made tubs of root beer! She was a loving mom who took her kids back to Southern Ohio nearly every weekend to visit with extended family and play cards. She enjoyed fishing with her family and being near the water. Even in retirement, Marie was not one to be idle. She greatly enjoyed traveling with friends and family alike. Although she saw many beautiful places, one of her favorites remained Cascade Park in Elyria where she could be found taking short hikes as recently as this summer. She was active in bridge club and played a competitive game of scrabble. In 2006, she was recognized as the resident volunteer of the year at the Elyria Wesleyan Village for her countless hours of work teaching others in the craft room. An avid quilter, cross-stitcher and all-around crafter, Marie continued sewing for as long as her eyesight would allow. Once unable to sew herself, she helped guide others who were learning. She was also a huge baseball fan, watching many family members play over the years and greatly enjoying the Cleveland Indians. More than anything, Marie loved spending time with her large family, organizing annual Christmas parties and summer picnics. She particularly enjoyed time with the youngest family members, always having a soft spot for the little ones. While we miss her tremendously, we are deeply grateful to have been blessed with our “MomMom” for so many wonderful years. Services are private.
