Emogene Britton (nee Williams) 81, of Elyria died March 14, 2014 at University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center after a sudden illness. She was born March 23, 1932 in Marfrance, West Virginia and has been a 60 year resident of Elyria. She was employed by the Elyria City Schools for 30 years as a lunch aid at Franklin Elementary School where she was lovingly referred to as “Grandma Jean”, retiring in 2011. She was a member of Elyria VFW # 1079 Ladies Auxiliary and Elyria Moose Lodge. Jean was a published poet and enjoyed spending time with her family. She was happy to be outside in her garden with the birds and flowers.Jean is survived by a daughter, Stephanie (Kenneth) Carey of Amherst; grandsons, Timothy (Michelle) Carey and Daniel Carey; great grandsons, Christopher and Xavier Carey and a sister, Maxine Golden.She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Gilbert O. Britton in 2000; parents, Albert and Blanche Williams; sisters, Reba White and Wanda Martin and brothers, Averel, Junior, Arthur and Mike Williams.Friends will be received Tuesday March 18, 2014 from 4:30 to 7:30 PM at Dicken Funeral Home, 323 Middle Avenue, Elyria. A funeral service will be Wednesday March 19, 2014 at 11:00 AM in the funeral home with Reverend Robert G. Wickens officiating. Burial will be in Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria.
