Ernest “Ernie” DeRhone Eddy, 94, of Oberlin, died August 1, 2022. He was born December 12, 1927 in Alexandria, VA to Eugene Boyd Eddy and Alverda Redman Eddy. He was a 1945 graduate from HS in Burkeville, VA and a 1949 graduate of Oberlin College. Ernie’s first job after college was general secretary for P&LE RR YMCA, Newell, PA. His career in retail included B&L 5? to $1.00 store with his father-in-law, W.D. Lose in Medina, Polsky’s Department Store in Akron and Conley’s Discount Department Store in Mansfield. After an early retirement, he resided in Santa Fe, NM and Wilmington, NC before returning to Oberlin. Ernie was one of the original groups of residents who moved into Kendal at Oberlin CCRC when it opened in October 1993. He enjoyed woodworking and singing in barbershop harmony choruses. Ernie is survived by his wife of 72 years, Jane Anne (nee Lose); children, Melissa (Tracy Schiementz) Eddy of Austin, TX, Gregory (special friend, Karen LaBranche) Eddy of Claremont, NH and Jason (Lynne) Eddy of Lucas, OH; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two step-granddaughters and eight step great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two younger sisters and a younger brother. Private services will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Residents Assistance Fund at Kendal at Oberlin. There are no gallery images.
