Ernest L. McAtee, Jr., 74, of Creston, Ohio and formerly of Elyria, died, Tuesday June 12, 2012 at Wooster Community Hospital. He was born August 17, 1937 in Pennsboro, West Virginia and at the age of 18 joined the Army National Guard. He was employed for 32 years at Ford Motor Company, Engine Plant # 2 in Brookpark, retiring in 1987. He was a member of Canaan Freewill Baptist Church in Creston. Ernest enjoyed spending time at his cabin in Webster Springs, West Virginia, hunting, fishing and harvesting ramps in the springtime. Other interests included gardening and collecting antique cars. Ernest is survived by his wife of 54 years, Carol M.(nee: Brotherdon); daughter, Cheryl (Tony) Rodak of West Salem; son, Robert (Anne) McAtee of Wooster; 9 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; brothers, Everett and Bernard McAtee; sisters, Marie Mahoney, Peggy VanMeter and Emma Jean Taylor.He was preceded in death by sons, James in 1977 and Paul in 1990; parents, Ernest and Frankie McAtee; brother, Sonny Boy and sister, Patty and Rosemary.Friends will be received Friday from 11:00 AM until the time of a 1:00 PM service at Dicken Funeral Home, 323 Middle Avenue, Elyria. Reverend James R. McComas will officiate. Burial will be in Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria where Elyria VFW # 1079 will present military honors.
