Esther E. HayesEsther E. Hayes (nee Bruce) 83, of Elyria passed away June 28, 2019 at her home after a lengthy illness. She was born December 21, 1935 in Elyria and was a 1955 graduate of Elyria High School. Esther was formerly employed as a nurses aid at Lutheran Home For The Aged in Westlake and was also a home health care nurse. She was a former member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Elyria and enjoyed her grandchildren, reading, animals and following the Cleveland Indians. Esther also had the classic line, “I never met a cake I didn’t like.”Esther is survived by her children, Christopher (Judy) Hayes, Brian (Marietta) Hayes and Heather (Tim) Jordan all of Elyria; grandchildren, Kevin and Sean Hayes, Kayla and Eric Kosky and Tommy and Josh Hayes and Cody Gochnour and brothers, Alfred (Marge) Bruce and Charles (Carolyn) Bruce both of Elyria. She was preceded in death by her husband of twenty eight years, Thomas C. Hayes in 1985; parents, Carl and Julia Bruce; brother, Gerald Bruce; sister, Dorothy Freeland and a step-brother, Henry Schieferstein.Friends will be received Tuesday July 2, 2019 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Dicken Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 323 Middle Avenue, Elyria. A funeral service will be Wednesday July 3, 2019 at 10:00 AM in the funeral home with Reverend John Robert Jackson, Chaplain of Mercy New Life Hospice officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Mercy New Life Hospice, 3500 Kolbe Road, Lorain 44053.
