Eva M. GreenbergEva Luzia Greenberg (nee Mueller), 82, of Oberlin, died April 14, 2012.She was born July 19, 1929 in Vienna, Austria to Greta and Paul Mueller. She left Austria in 1938 at the age of nine, fleeing the Nazis with her parents, and set sail for the United States. They lived in New York City then settled in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Eva attended Girls Latin School in Boston, and then Radcliffe College, graduating in 1951 with a major in Romance Languages. She married Nathan Greenberg in 1952. After their first child, David, was born, they spent a year in Italy. In 1956, they moved to Oberlin, Ohio where Nathan became a member of the faculty of Oberlin College. They had two more children, Judith and Lisa, and three more sabbaticals in California, Belgium and England. The family also hosted a student from Amsterdam, Henk, who became a lifelong Greenberg member.In 1975, Eva earned a masters degree in library science from Kent State University. She worked at a number of Ohio libraries (Strongsville, Zanesville, Lorain, Elyria) before she became Head of Reference at Oberlin Public Library, where she worked until retirement at age 75. She envisioned the public library as a place to bring people and ideas together. The programs she prepared were a huge success. There is a room in the Oberlin Public Library named in her honor.Eva and Nathan moved to Kendal in 2005. She became a very active member of the community. She loved volunteering at Eastwood Elementary School, the Kendal Early Learning Center, the library book group, as well as numerous other committees.She had a great sense of humor and sense of fun. Her warmth and welcoming spirit, her drive and enormous energy will be greatly missed.She is survived by her husband, Nathan, her children, David, Judith, and Lisa and their partners, Peggy, Marra, and Brad, and five grandchildren: Natalie, Molly, Rachel, Brendan, and Emma. She loved her family and her family loved her. A graveside service was held 11:30 a.m. Friday, April 20, 2012 at Westwood Cemetery in Oberlin. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 24, 2012 at 2 pm at Kendal at Oberlin. Donations can be made to any organization that benefits children.
