Frances Leah Platz (nee Hartman), 91, of Elyria, died peacefully April 18, 2016 in her home.She was born June 24, 1924 in New London, OH and at age 19, joined the U.S. Army. She worked in the Defense Plant as a Tech 5 in Ashland, Ohio and was among the first W.A.C. While serving in the Army, she met and married her husband Edward.She was a former resident of Kent, OH and then for 23 years lived in Mt. Holly, NJ.Frances held a strong faith in the Lord. Other interests included bowling, reading and her grandchildren.Frances is survived by her daughters Sandra R. (Jerry) Ley of Elyria, Donna (Nick) Bibich of Littleton, CO and a son Eddie J. Platz of Elyria; grandchildren Kris Miller, Shannon (Sam) Perrott, April DiAntonio, Mark Bibich, Stefan Platz and Katherine (James) Cunliff; 7 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Edward F. Platz in 1980; brothers Ray, Ora, Pinky and Frank Hartman; sister Bertha Shambaugh and parents John and Blanch Hartman.A service for the family was held at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman, OH. Reverend Jeff Sweitzer, chaplain at Hospice of the Western Reserve will officiate and military honors will be presented.
